After years baking at home, she is opening a cake studio not far from where she lives.

The Cake Fairy is not a retail store, but instead is an appointment-only spot for cake consultations, decorating classes and summer camps.

Details will be posted shortly on her website and Facebook page.

Maginn, who grew up baking in her native Ireland, said she spent the bulk of her teens turning her mother's kitchen upside down playing and experimenting. And though she eventually worked in marketing, she always baked, combining her love for art -- she was an oil painting student for years -- into outside the mold creations.

Her specialty lies with figurines, three-dimensional sculpted cakes and three-dimensional fondant characters. (Check out the photos -- yes, that puppy is a cake!)

She launched Cake Fairy in Ireland in 2012 and in New Jersey in 2016. She is hoping to grow the business with her new locale.

The store opens Thursday, May 18 at 88 LaRoche Ave., 201-994-5932. www.thecakefairyllc.com.
