MONTVALE, N.J. — Winter Storm Stella canceled six blood drives, leaving the Montvale-based Community Blood Services scrambling to make up the shortfall.

The nonprofit is urging people to donate blood or platelets at eight drives to take place in Bergen and Passaic counties Thursday through Sunday.

“We need 200 units a day because we supply 18 hospitals,” said Patricia Casino, CBS operations planning manager.

“So it’s a big hit when we cancel all those drives.”
