Ramirez has been performing comedy full-time for nearly 35 years.

Originally a jeweler out of high school, he quickly adapted to a life in stand-up comedy.

"It was something I always wanted to do," Ramirez said.

"It was the only thing that ever came easy to me."

Ramirez has performed for a variety of audiences and venues in New York and New Jersey, including the city of Orange and Hasbrouck Heights.

Over the years, he said adaptability is an important skill for a comedian.

"Today, I think comics are a bit more specified. If the crowd doesn't like them they say 'that crowd sucked.' Not really. You didn’t adapt. They don’t have to like you if they don’t like you," Ramirez said.

Ramirez will lend his talent to a comedy show coordinated by Garfield's YMCA at The Royal Manner. The YMCA-sponsored show has been hosted annually for several years.

The show takes place on Thursday, March 2 at 6:30 to 11 p.m. at The Royal Manner, 454 Midland Avenue in Garfield. Tickets can be purchased by calling 973.928.2970.
