The January collection features birding and travel images as well as portraiture.
Landscapes include a moonrise over 42nd Street, a salt marsh in Maine, and Venice at night.
Nature scenes feature close-ups of blue jays, lions, Vermont cows, and much more.
“I was always intrigued with the idea that a camera can see what the naked eye cannot,” Ross said.
“It captures the flap of a bird’s wing or the feet of a racehorse leaving the ground.”
The retired Verizon network technician, who now works in Subaru's customer service department, has been shooting for more than 40 years.
He thinks of a camera as both a time and truth machine.
Time, because a photograph freezes an instant forever.
Truth, because it a camera records what is, stripped of any preconceived notions.
Ross has developed a mantra for his craft: “Be still. Empty yourself of all thought, and the photograph will come to you.”
Among his most recent awards are the Best of the Best Award from the Photographic Society of America (2015-2016), Photo of the Year from the Teaneck Camera Club (2015-2016), and Honorable Mention at Bergen County “Art in the Park” (2016).
Ross lives with his wife, Maria. The couple has two grown children, Brian and Lauren.
