NORWOOD, N.J. -- Norwood fifth-grader Ella Guzman, and eighth-graders Jaimie Park and Stephen Brossard each received the President's Volunteer Gold Service Award for their exemplary volunteer service, teaching and mentoring students in the martial art of Taekwondo.
The award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country. The New York State Taekwondo Association honored these three on behalf of President Barack Obama.
"Volunteering as an instructor at Triumph Taek Won Do was definitely a memorable experience," said Jaimie. "Overall, I am glad I took this opportunity to spend more time doing what I love."
"I am honored to receive presidential recognition, knowing that my help will make a difference," said Ella.
The three received a personalized certificate of achievement, an official pin, and a congratulatory letter signed personally by the president. The President's Volunteer Service Award Ceremony was held on Saturday, Feb. 25, in Bayside, New York.
Stephen and Ella have each earned a second-degree black belt. Jaimie is a third-degree black belt.
