The frightened and injured dog was first spotted on Orangeburg Road near The Village at Old Tappan condominium complex around 2 a.m. Sunday, police told Daily Voice.
He then continued into Norwood before authorities grabbed him around 10:45 a.m., with help from Dr. Neil Hess, the owner of Old Tappan Veterinary, who sedated him.
An officer from the Palisades Interstate Parkway who heard the lost dog alert recognized him and called the owners, who were vacationing in the Dominican Republic.
The 150+-pound pooch was in the care of veterinarians at the Oradell Animal Hospital.
Borough police thanked Hess and Janine Weinert of Norwood for their help.
