HAWORTH, N.J. -- Carmela A. Petrella (nee Allocca), of Haworth, died Dec. 26 in Ridgewood. She was 89.
She was the mother of Jeffrey Petrella M.D. and his wife Kristin, William Petrella and his wife Elise and Barbara Petrella Whelan Ph.D. and her husband Michael. She was the grandmother of Eva and Lia Petrella, Andrew Joseph Whelan and Robert, Steven and Lynn Petrella.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, William; her brothers, Frederick and Peter; and her sisters, Frances, Grace and Jeanie.
She was born in Floral Park, N.Y. to the late Pietro and Adelina (nee Armellino) Allocca and grew up in Brooklyn, relocating to Haworth in 1971.
She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Haworth, a member of White Beeches Country Club, a teacher’s aide at various local schools including the Bergen Center for Child Development in Haworth and worked as a sales associate and restaurant hostess at Macy’s Abraham and Strauss and Lord & Taylor.
A funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Haworth. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont.
