HARRINGTON PARK, N.J. -- George DeGennaro -- a Harrington Park resident, formerly of Northvale for 47 years -- died on Wednesday, June 22. He was 81.
Before retiring, DeGennaro worked for the family business, DeGennaro Transportation in Hoboken and Kearny, for many years. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony's Church in Northvale, and he belonged to the Northvale Golden Age Club.
He was an active resident of Brookside Village, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends and neighbors. "Of all he enjoyed in life, nothing surpassed his love of family and the time he spent with them," information from the funeral home noted.
DeGennaro is survived by his wife of 59 years, Irene (Sumner) DeGennaro; children Debbie Gordon of Westport, Connecticut, George Jr. of Northvale, Marlene Westhelle and her husband Bob of Norwood, Kathy Berger and her husband Robert of Westport, Connecticut, and Ken and his wife Peg of Northvale; grandchildren Nicholas, Robert, Amanda, Gregory, Simon, Gavin, Juliette, Christopher, Sara, Carley, Lauren, Marin and Katelyn; and brother Nicholas and his wife Marie of Colorado.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Rose, Vincent, Steven, Joseph and Anthony.
Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, June 24, at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, in Northvale. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Anthony’s Church, in Northvale, with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, in Sparkill, New York.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Northvale Ambulance Corps or Harrington Park Ambulance Corps.
