Rocchitella Fanelli, 80, Of Norwood

NORWOOD, N.J. -- Rocchitella “Roxanne” (Motta) Fanelli, of Norwood, died on Monday, Jan. 16. She was 80.

She was born on July 7, 1936 in Laurenzana, Potenza, Italy and in 1958 she came to the U.S. after marrying her beloved husband John R. Fanelli. She worked as a cafeteria aid at Junior High School 80 in the Bronx. Once she moved to New Jersey in 1981, she worked as a cafeteria aid at Burns and Roe in Oradell. She also worked at Ingleside Nursing Home of Old Tappan, as a dietary aid up until its closing. 

Upon her retirement, she worked as a crossing guard for over 20 years in Norwood, near Holy Family Catholic Academy. Her passions were cooking, sewing, gardening and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Frank A. Fanelli and his wife Cristina and Salvatore Fanelli and his wife Marianne; grandchildren, Anthony, Virginia, John and Francesca; siblings, Maria Zarrella and her late husband Giuseppe, Carmela Arena and her husband Michael, Josephine Rusciano and her husband Vincent, Margaret Mazza and her husband Giuseppe, John Motta and his wife Vera, Maria Rosaria Ribaudo and her husband Tony.

She is predeceased by her husband John R. Fanelli.

Visiting hours are Thursday, Jan. 19, from 4-9 p.m. at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave., Northvale. Funeral mass is Friday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Norwood, with entombment to follow at Garden of Memories, Washington Township.
