ANOTHER CVP SCOOP: Closter police were thankful this morning for the safe end of a shaky situation when they found a 23-year-old borough man who tried to hang himself in his parents’ house a short time earlier.

Authorities got the call just after 1:30 a.m. from the parents, who said their son bolted out the back door in the rain after they prevented him from killing himself, Closter Police Chief Dennis Kaine told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

It began what became a search of nearly 90 minutes, with help from neighboring departments Cresskill, Demarest, Dumont, Harrington Park, Haworth and Norwood, Kaine said.

A Bergen County Sheriff’s Office K9 also responded but had trouble tracking a scent because of the rainy conditions.

As Closter Sgt. Chris Ippolito and Officers Michael Feahsal and Christopher Barbieri doubled back to re-interview the parents, they spotted their son in the backyard.

He was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center, Kaine told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
