What if police told you none of the three drivers was impaired when the crashes occurred?
It began just after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, when a 2008 GMC pickup hit a utility pole and several trees on northbound Route 23 at Echo Road, said Detective Sgt. Joseph Walker.
The West Milford First Aid Squad responded, but the driver, 21-year-old Michael Easton of Highland Lakes, refused treatment, Walker said.
Police issued him summonses for for careless driving and disregard of marked lanes, the sergeant said.
One lane of the northbound highway was closed for several hours while utility crews replaced the pole.
Just before 12:30 a.m. Thurday, a 2003 Jeep struck a telephone pole on Union Valley Road near Christine Court, Walker said.
Michael Hess, 20, of West Milford also refused first aid squad treatment, he said. He received a summons for failing to keep right.
Utility companies replaced the pole, and the road was reopened at 8 a.m.
Then, just before 6:30 a.m., a 2011 Dodge Caliber hit telephone pole, knocking wires on top of it, on Clinton Road near Hansen Lane.
Fire Companies from Upper Greenwood Lake, Greenwood Forest and West Milford responded, aong with the West Milford First Aid Squad.
Firefighters extricated the driver, Thomas Riggleman of Hewitt, who was flown by HUMC's AirMed One to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.
Clinton Road remained closed while crews replaced the pole.
