Dumont Detective Luke Totten, assisted by his borough colleagues and investigators from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, moved in and took 30-year-old Engelbert Nunez of Wilkes-Barre, PA into custody.

Totten, who received information that Nunez planned to sell 400 bags of heroin, set up surveillance and was watching as Nunez parked his 2001 Ford Taurus station wagon in a lot at the corner of Madison Avenue and Brook Street around 1 p.m. Thursday, Sgt. Michael Foti told Daily Voice.

Nunez, who police believe has street connections in Paterson, began walking and tossed the bag into the planter on Dumont Avenue, Foti said.

Police searched the car after arresting Nunez and found a hidden compartment used to stash drugs, the sergeant said.

Nunez was processed and released on various drug charges pending a hearing in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
