Fairview police catch ex-con wanted on warrants

CVP ONLY: Teamwork helped Fairview police catch an ex-con wanted on warrants out of several towns after he bailed from a suspicious car and ran, leaving an associate behind.

Hakeem Chance, Julius King Smith (MUGSHOTS: Fairview PD)

Police went to 5th Street after a woman who knows 30-year-old Julius King Smith called and said he was walking around outside her window.

When they arrived, a car parked in front of the woman’s house sped off, said Detective Sgt. Vincent M Bellucci

The vehicle stopped at the end of the block and the driver got out and ran.

Officer Gino Sculco held onto his passenger and radioed a dispatcher.

Officer Rebecca Corvino then grabbed the second man, identified as Smith, a Fairview resident who served two years in state prison for drug-related convictions in the mid-2000s.

The 6-foot, 160-pound Smith already was wanted on five outstanding warrants elsewhere.

He is being held on $15,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail on the Fairview charges — drug possession and distribution, resisting arrest and eluding, DWI and driving while on the suspended list — pending a Fairview Municipal Court hearing Wednesday.

Chance also had outstanding warrants, for which he posted bail and was released.
