As part of its “Look Before You Lock” program -- which focused on the dangers leaving children and pets in hot cars -- the department's Community Affairs Division held a "Coffee With a Cop" session Tuesday at a local McDonalds.

Besides the potential for heat stroke, violators face arrest and prosecution, authorities warn.

The Passaic Street fast food restaurant donated free coffee and soda to citizens who came to discuss those and other concerns.
