Mia and her owners, Ruth and Jennifer Mendez, wanted to express their thanks for Tuesday afternoon's rescue of the furry Pomeranian-Husky mix to members of Ridgefield Engine/Rescue Co 2.

The chair's coils twisted the 1-year-old's thickly textured coat and skin into the mechanism, making it impossible for her to get free, Company Fire Capt. David Brierty 2 told Daily Voice.

"We had to take apart the chair just so we could bring her out to see how badly she was in there," Brierty said.

"We brought her out with the motor still attached," the captain said. "Then we held her tight and backed up the mechanism to unroll her out of there.

"She was very scared, crying -- and nippy," Brierty said. "But once we got her out, she was all over us.

"It was really sweet."

Despite some bruises and cuts, Mia was none the worse for wear.

Also responding were Chief Michael Kees, Fire Official James Brierty, Chief John Hoffman, Second Lt. Michael Fugnitti, First Lt. Perry Bonaguaro and Firefighter Joseph Greco.
