The couple “did the right thing by staying in their car and dialing 911″ after spotting the intruder standing in their kitchen around 5 p.m., Haworth Detective Sgt. Thomas Ryan told CLIFFVIEW PILOT tonight.
Detective Justin Fox and Officer Matthew McGuire banged on the front door, as one of them shouted, “Show me your hands! Get on the floor!”
But the thief turned and ran.
The officers shouldered the door open and went after him, but the intruder put up a struggle, “flailing his arms and locking his elbows” before they got him to the floor, Ryan said.
Next to the front door, the officers found a laundry basket filled with $750 worth of top-shelf alcohol, said Ryan, who took photos of the scene.
Nothing else was missing, he told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
Gerard C. Beaudin, 48, of Ringwood, who has at least one prior arrest, was being held on $10,000 bail at the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary, theft and resisting arrest, records show.
