High Tech High: Straight-A students in compassion

High Tech High School in North Bergen has distinguished itself as one of the state’s best for its science and liberal arts programs. However, a different kind of excellence was welcomed recently by the Saint Mary/Saint Michael Food Pantry in downtown Jersey City.

Members of the public high school’s National Honor Society gathered 600 cans and cartons themselves, packed them up, and brought them to the pantry — which feeds more than 300 needy families a week.

Props also go to American Literature teacher Patrick Noble, whose class spearheaded the schoolwide effort.

Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech High, also cited Language Arts Department Liaison Joan Marie Bellotti and NHS officers Sameer Chauhan of Jersey City, Julia Eisler of Secaucus, Michael Haefner of Kearny, and Amanda Kuklinski of Bayonne.

If you want to contribute to the effort, contact the rectory of Saint Mary’s R.C. Church, 219 3rd Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302, at (201) 653-2217. Tell them CLIFFVIEWPILOT.COM sent you.
