The Main Street TD Bank branch robber "walked up to the teller with his hand in his pocket as if he had a gun and demanded money," Police Chief Ralph Verdi said following the holdup, which occurred just before 1 p.m. "Then he reached over the counter and grabbed her by the shirt."

The initial description was only that he was white and had a scruffy face.

The Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence after a sheriff's K-9 unit tracked a scent to behind a nearby restaurant, Verdi said.

The FBI was contacted, the chief said.
