Missing Woodland Park Man, 85, ID'd As Body Found In Canal

WOODLAND PARK, N.J. -- The man whose body was found in a Morris Canal stream in Woodland Park was an 85-year-old borough resident reported missing the night before, authorities confirmed.

Loved ones reported Thomas Kozell missing around 7 p.m. Thursday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Woodland Park Police Chief Anthony Galietti said.

His body was spotted in the water near a walking path between Browertown Road and Mt. Pleasant Avenue around 8:30 a.m. Friday, they said.

Kozell, who had dementia, apparently fell down a steep ravine behind the American Legion Hall on Mount Pleasant Avenue, borough Detective Lt. John Uzzalino said.
