NORWOOD, N.J. -- Television screens went blank during the Super Bowl for 1,463 customers in Norwood and Harrington Park after a drunk driver from Old Tappan toppled a utility pole just after 9 p.m. Sunday, police said.
Stephanie Sariol, 24, left the car behind and ran off after destroying the pole in front of Pine Brook Kennels on Broad Street, Police Chief Jeffrey Krapels told Daily Voice.
Krapels's officers identified her after learning that the car's registered owner of the car lives in Old Tappan, Krapels said Monday.
Old Tappan police waited for Sariol while Norwood police searched for her "just in case she was injured and couldn't make it home," the chief said.
A K-9 was also summoned "just to make sure she wasn’t unconscious somewhere," he added.
She then walked 2½ miles through Harrington Park to her Old Tappan home, where local police took her into custody, Krapels said.
Norwood police charged her with DWI, refusal to submit to a breath test, leaving the scene of a crash and failing to report it.
