More than 60 applicants submitted resumes, and the Oradell Borough Council and police department whittled the candidates to five. After interviews, two were offered positions and a third person has been selected as an alternate.

Borough Administrator Laura Graham said the new officer's salary would cost about $50,000 with benefits. Councilman Edward Pfleging said the town's usual number of officers is 21 and the town currently is working with 18 officers. The Borough Council and police were working on a plan to fund the third position.

Oradell Police Chief Frank Florio retired earlier this year. Detective Sgt. Billy Wicker is currently serving as the leader of the department.
