Accused dealer Harry Alexander, 31, of Paterson tossed a black plastic shopping bag under a car after Sgt. Amy Perlmutter spotted him and 30-year-old Evan McManus of Haledon just after 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Capt. Ammen Matari said.

Perlmutter was responding to a call of two suspicious men in the area of North 8th Street and Fairview Avenue, he said.

Alexander and McManus began splitting up when Perlmutter got out of her police cruiser and ordered them to stop, the captain said.

Detective Walter Richmond and Officer Arthur Canestrino then arrived and both men were arrested.

Perlmutter retrieved the bag, which Matari said contained two bricks of heroin stamped “cartier” in red ink.

McManus was charged with loitering to buy drugs and released pending a Municipal Court hearing.

A judge ordered Alexander held in the Passaic County Jail pending a detention hearing in Central Judicial Processing Court in Paterson. He faces various drug charges.
