GARFIELD, N.J. -- Dignitaries aplenty flocked to the Venetian in Garfield on Thursday night to honor one of Fairview's most respected public servants, Paul Juliano, as the borough Chamber of Commerce's Man of the Year.

Chamber President Dr. Michael Arber welcomed an estimated 700 attendees -- among them, politicians, business people and public servants from Fairview and beyond.

Such a turnout "shows everybody how important Fairview is to Bergen County and how spectacular Fairview can be," Arber said.

Juliano "spent so many decades donating time and effort unselfishishly in order to make the community better," he added. "He helped create a thriving business community in Fairview.

"[The event] had to be done."

Attending were, among others, U.S. District Judge Brian Martinotti, state Sen. Paul Sarlo, state Assemblyman Vincent Prieto, County Executive Jim Tedesco, county Clerk John Hogan and county Communications Director Frank DelVecchio -- a former Fairview police chief -- as well as nearly a dozen area mayors and other public servants..

Locals also turned out in abundance -- among them, Al DeMuro of Al D Landscaping and Tree Service and Fairview Police Chief Martin Kahn, both lifelong friends of the guest of honor.

Juliano, 46, has served as public works chief for both the county and the borough, as a commissioner on the Bergen County Utilities Authority, as a member of the county Board of Elections and as Democratic municipal chairman in Fairview.

He said he was "very honored and humbled" by the attention, because everything he does for the town he was born and raised in stems from his love and dedication for it.
