NORWOOD, N.J.– Writing about their favorite topics helped Norwood siblings Hudson and Ella Guzman take first and second, respectively, in the New Jersey Association for Gifted Children 2016 Statewide Writing Contest.
The theme was "Power Up! Learning All Day, Every Day."
Hudson's essay "Math Is Everywhere" earned the top prize in the Pre-K-2 division.
"I thought writing about math would be interesting because I see it everywhere," the first-grader said. "Math is my favorite subject and I use math all day, sometimes without even realizing it."
Ella's essay "Musical Brain" captured second place in the 3-5 division.
"I picked the topic I felt most passionate about, something I was knowledgable in, and dedicated to," the fourth grader said. "I was willing to share the beauty of it with others. The first thing I thought of was my violin."
The brother and sister will both be acknowledged at the NJAGC 25th Annual Conference held on April 15-16 in Somerset.
