"The reason we need a new building is because our classrooms have become overly crowded," said David Spelbrink, a father of three. "My middle daughter is entering kindergarten and will be in a class of 22 kids. She is far from the exception, my oldest daughter was in a second grade class of 25 kids last year.
"All the research says that smaller classrooms help children learn better."
But, Spelbrink says, his children and many others who thrive in smaller classes.
A vote for the referendum to build a new school will be on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
The impact is less than $15 per month for most Cresskill families, and less for many, according to Spelbrink.
He opines that the early education building will have a direct impact on middle and high school classes.
"We know this is a great town to live in and a desirable one to move to in no small part because of our schools," the father said.
"But when our neighboring towns have 18 or 19 kids in their classes and we have 25., you can see where new homeowners will want to move.
" Those rankings that come out take class sizes into consideration and 25 or more kids in a second grade class doesn't help that.
"Our community needs this new school, our kids need this new school. Investing in our town is the right thing to do."
