"It gives students the skills at a young age," said its founder, Shara Nadler of Haworth. "We are trying to get it in more schools."
Fifteen youngsters completed a weeks-long after school program with iPiggiBank, a money management course sponsored by Bank of New Jersey that Nadler created as a way to teach her three young boys about responsibility and healthy financial habits.
The children received diplomas and a financial information booklet that they created during the program. “A Penny for Piggy” author Trish Wilson, gave out signed copies of her book.
The group also donated funds from a “good deed” jar to the Cresskill Food Bank.
iPiggiBank addresses the need for understanding personal finance at a very early age.
Students learn and have an opportunity to save, shop, share as they work with their own allowances in exercises.
The program empowers children to take responsibility for their money and start the conversation about healthy financial habits, the corporation noted in a statement.
