The association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the history and contributions of military service dogs.

The contributions for the USWDA will help provide specialty equipment such as cooling vests, boots and “doggles” – protective eyewear for dogs – along with post-war transportation and adoption services for the canines.

Pet Valu is also accepting ongoing donations for two local rescue organizations, the Closter Animal Welfare Society (CLAWS) and Chance at Life Cat Rescue in River Edge.

Those who wish to help can do so by purchasing an American flag bandana for $5.

Monetary donations in any amount are also welcome.

More than $800,000 has been raised for the group through the Pet Valu fundraiser since it was established in 2010.

The pet store is located at 40 Washington Ave., Dumont.
