HAWORTH, N.J. -- A Dumont driver was carrying three dozen bags of heroin and eight different types of prescription pills with her 5-year-old daughter in the car when Haworth police stopped her for speeding before dawn Saturday, authorities said.
Michele Descisciolo, 34, also had her mother and mother's boyfriend in the car when she was stopped by Officer James DiVite on southbound Schraalenburgh Road around 1:45 a.m., Sgt. Justin Fox said.
DiVite and backup Officer George Buono found 37 bags of heroin and 32 prescription pills of varying types, Fox said.
Police summoned a state Division of Child Protection and Permanency worker who responded to headquarters and placed the girl in the custody of Descisciolo's mother, the sergeant said.
Descisciolo, meanwhile, was charged with child endangerment, along with various drug offenses. She was released pending a hearing in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
