Water main replacement work to close stretch of Rivervale Road

TRAFFIC ALERT: Starting next month, a water main replacement project on Rivervale Road in River Vale is going to close the road for 10-12 weeks between Old Tappan Road and Poplar Road from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and on certain Saturdays, borough police announced warned this evening.

United Water said it is replacing more than a half-mile of 12-inch water main from Old Tappan Road to Prospect Avenue beginning on or around March 10.

Rivervale Road between Old Tappan Road and Poplar Road will be completely closed in both directions to through traffic during construction hours River Vale police emphasized.

A posted detour will direct through traffic to Old Tappan Road and Washington Avenue North / Poplar Road.

The work will eventually extend north to Prospect Avenue, requiring adjustments in the detour.

Local traffic will have access to houses within the construction site only, police said.

Emergency vehicles will have through access during construction hours.
